Karen Burniston Designer Challenge 99: Fun Faces!
Posted by Karen Burniston on Nov 5th 2025
Welcome to Designer Challenge 99 with a theme of FUN FACES! I challenged the team to use our new Fun Faces 1 Clear Stamps on a card of any theme.
For my card and video I have styled our Paper People die set as Charlie Brown and the gang along with their famous Thanksgiving meal.

Learn how I made this card by watching the full tutorial here:
My card measures 4.25" x 5.5" when closed and can be mailed in an A2 envelope with extra postage. For the front of the card I wanted to reference the menu. I used the Kitchen Borders, Movie Night Charms, Tiny Accessories 1, Movie Night Clear Stamps and Word Set 7 to create a fun hint to the the theme of the card.

As the card opens the pop-up starts to expand.

Inside a double Photo Fan pops up, revealing all the characters from the animated special. I combined the Paper People, Fun Faces 1 Clear Stamps, Cat and Dog, Tiny Accessories 1, Baking Borders, Chicken, Pig and Lamb, Circles - Crosshatch, Kitchen Borders, Movie Night Charms and Photo Memories Clear Stamps plus a white gel pen and a black pen.

This card idea would be perfect for a personalized card featuring your family or invited guests. Or think of other fun famous characters that could be replicated with the Paper People. The die set includes several choices of hair and clothing that can be combined in all sorts of ways.

Ready to give this technique a try? Here are the dies and supplies used in the video. The patterned papers are stash items.

Let's take a look at how our talented Design Team interpreted the FUN FACES challenge. In each case you can click the designer's name to go to their blog or social media post where you'll find additional photos, supply lists and, in some cases, videos!
Frances Byrne added Fun Faces to the trees in her adorable Christmas scene. She also used the stamp set on the reindeer and Santa. I love the combination of dies and patterns here - that pop of blue! Click over to see more.

Sandy Diller filled our Sleigh Pop-up with a crew of polar bears with fun faces. I love the personality that she created with the different faces and fun accessories. Click over for a video of this card in action.

Lois Bak created a choir in a Wide Woven Basket! What a great idea! I love that she used the robe from the Graduation Elements as choir robes and all of the fun expressions on her people. Click over to see more.

Jennifer Webster cleverly embossed the faces with glow-in-the-dark powder to create an eerie ghoulish backdrop to her Halloween Fireplace pop-up. Amazing! Click over to see more.

Sue Small-Kreider made an autumn-themed slimline card featuring Woodland and Winter Animals on the front, each with their respective fun faces. I adore the border Sue created with small leaves and acorns. Click over to Sue's blog for a process video on this card.

Nicky Foden used the Fun Faces clear stamps to add personality to her flowers on this adorable Fancy Label Accordion card. Adding faces to personify other die cuts is another great way to use the stamp set. Click over for a full photo tutorial of this card.

Suzanne Smit celebrates autumn with a great Tiny Trees card featuring the Cat and Dog dies frolicking in the leaves. I love the unique shape to Suzanne's card. Be sure to click over to see the front of the card.

Well we hope you are inspired to create some FUN FACES cards of your own. Join us next month on December 3, 2025 for our 100th Designer Challenge with a theme of SONG LYRICS. We will be inspired by our favorite tunes for our projects.
Happy Crafting!
